Casting out Demons
We are commanded to cast out demons. Demons are the pre-adamic race that lived on the earth while Lucifer was still an archangel. If you disagree on that point its okay. It does seem like the Bible describes a civilization that was on the earth before Adam. It also describes kings and cities that were on the Earth before Adam. This civilization that fell when Lucifer fell is what we call demons today. Demons are actual spirit beings that are seeking for bodies to inhabit. They are not bad thoughts although they can cause bad thoughts. It is dangerous to discuss the demonic and the wicked powers of the enemy (including the devil) outside of the boundaries of the Word. The Bible gives us clear insight into many areas of the wicked realm and it is for our benefit! It is so we are not ignorant of the devil’s ways. However, the Bible also steers clear from many aspects of the demonic realm. So should you and I! Remember the primary reason for Lucifer’s fall was that he wanted to be like God. He wanted the attention! The demonic world wants your attention. It wants you to be fascinated by it.
They came to the other side of the sea, into the region of the Gerasenes. 2 When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him. 3 He lived among the tombs; and no one was able to bind him anymore, not even with a chain, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces; and no one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and cutting himself with stones. 6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; 7 and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, “What business do You have with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!” 8 For He had already been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he *said to Him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” 10 And he begged Him earnestly not to send them out of the region. 11 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding nearby on the mountain. 12 And the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us into the pigs so that we may enter them.” 13 Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.”
Mark 5:1-13
In this story, we see how Jesus handles the demonic realm. First, he does not run away from it. This demonic stronghold was so strong it consisted of many demons and had shaped culture in that town. Jesus did not run away. Fear of the demonic is absolutely never needed when HE is present. No matter the manifestation and no matter the amount they always bow to THE KING. Second, Jesus immediately was casting them out.
“8 For He had already been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"
“Why? Not because he was afraid of them! I have seen so many times people yell and scream and do wild actions because they feel like it is a standoff against the demonic and they have to quickly deal with them or else they could get hurt. How do we know this is not true? Because the demons did not attack Jesus. They bowed. In fact the demons, were afraid Jesus was going to torment them! The only people in the Bible that got beat up by devils were those who carried Jesus name but did not know Him. Jesus was quickly casting the demons out because it is the heart of God to set the prisoners free. Jesus showed up on the scene and would not have this man be bound any longer. The speed was out of love not out of fear. Lastly, we see that Jesus rebuked the demons multiple times. It is okay to do the same. It is not a lack of authority to repeatedly rebuke the demon. Just rebuke it until its gone.
